Starting the preparation

In the week beginning 1st of august, we are planning to cycle from where we live in The Hague (The Netherlands) to Brussels (Belgium) with one of our friends Charlie Nourse. We have planned to cycle there in a day and cycle back in a day. It should not be too difficult to achieve, being around 175 km. To achieve this we shall also do a mini-preparation cycle beforehand from The Hague along the coast for 60km and then back again to prepare ourselves for two 175 km days. If anyone has any suggestions on routes or any general advice, please drop us a comment!

Arthaud Adriaenssens

Hello my name is Arthaud Adriaenssens I’m 16 born in the Netherlands but I am French. I go to the British school in the Netherlands hence my ability to speak English. Because of this I can now speak Dutch, French and English fluently. I my hobbies are sport, I row competitively, run for fitness and cycle for fun. I have been cycling all my life as in the Netherlands cycling is part of daily life and is learned be most at a young age. I have done some competitive mountain biking and have increased my road bike skills through several triathlonsI hope that the cycle around the world will give me the opportunity to meet all different kinds of people and experience many different communities

David Milne

I am David Milne, I'm 16 years old and have lived in many different countries including Oman, Libya, The Netherlands and England. I am quite keen on photography, and I have a blog www.davidmilnereviews.blogspot.com with some photography advice and reviews of electronically items. I have been cycling since I was 4 and used to cycle 26 km a day for the last two years. Ever since I moved school from the British school in the Netherlands to Fettes college, I have not been able to do as much cycling as I hoped to. I hope this will change and I would like to do a lot more cycling over the next two years, in preparation for the big trip. My favourite type of cycling is probably mountain biking, however I am also very keen on long distance touring. When I finish school ( in two years) I hope to cycle around the world (or at least most of it!) with my friend Arthaud Adriaenssens seeing as many different cultures and communities as we can.

What we are hoping to do...

This blog has been set up in order to inform people of what Arthaud Adriaenssens and I are hoping to achieve during the break between school, and university. We are hoping to be able to cycle, from The Hague (The Netherlands), due west, all the way around the globe, using as little possible support, and encountering as many different cultures and communities as we can, showing that travel can still be done in one of the most primitive ways. Although this may be an ambition, we believe that with the correct amount of support from both companies, and individuals, we should be able to fulfil our ambitions. The trip is still in its preliminary stages, however we soon hope to start posting more information about the planned trip, and gain more publicity...
